TINA'S ADVENTURE ISLAND

*** STORY ***

Tina wakes up thinking it's going to be another peaceful day in the island, but suddenly she starts feeling worried. She calls Takahashi although he doesn't seem to be home. Walking out of the cabin Tina hopes to see her boyfriend in the surroundings but he isn't there either, so she decides to go deep into the jungle to find him, even though Takahashi always tells her how dangerous it is.

After avoiding some fearsome creatures, she gets to a cave where she finds a sorcerer who seems to know what happened to Takahashi. It's time for her to rescue her beloved one!


*** START THE GAME ***

Caution. First of all, follow the next advise not to damage your machine neither your game cartridge:

- Always be sure that your MSX computer is turned OFF when inserting and/or removing the cartridge.
- Don't touch slot connections.
- Avoid extreme temperatures, humidity and impacts.
- Don't try to open the cartridge case.

To start with the game, insert the cartridge properly and turn on your MSX.

At title screen you can choose between 2 different options by pressing <SPACE> or <A BUTTON>:

[START]: Play a new game.
[CONTINUE]: Insert a password to continue an old game.


*** HOW TO PLAY ***

You, as Tina, must explore 5 islands and defeat 5 evil spirits to rescue Takahashi. On each island, there are lots of dangerous creatures and many areas to discover.

VITALITY: When you begin each area, you have a full vitality bar (displayed on the bottom of the screen) which will continuously go down as you play. To keep it full, you must eat fruits or drink milk. Fruit appears regularly in almost
every area. You will receive points at the end of each area based on how much vitality you have left.

COINS: When you first start playing, you won't have any weapons or items. But as you get rid of the creatures you'll bump into, you'll get coins that will help you to buy useful weapons and items.

WEAPONS: You may buy up to 4 different weapons, but only one of them can be equipped at a time. You'll be allowed to switch between all of them by pressing the "Change weapon" button.

ITEMS: You may buy several items. Some of them will provide an instant advantage while others only will be useful under certain circumstances.


*** CONTROLS & KEYS ***

You can play the game with the keyboard or a joystick/pad connected to any port.

<LEFT>: Move to the left (if the skates are equipped you will slow down instead).
<RIGHT>: Move to the right.
<SPACE>/<SHIFT>/<A BUTTON>: Use weapon.
<UP>/<M>/<N>/<CTRL>/<GRAPH>/<B BUTTON>: Jump.
<DOWN>: Change weapon.
<STOP>: Pauses the game.


*** EXTRAS ***

If your MSX computer is equipped with a V9938 VDP or higher you'll be able to activate the following features by pressing these keys while loading the game:

<SELECT>: The game switches to 60Hz by pressing it while booting. Music will play at the same speed in any case.

<F1>: The game changes the palette by pressing it at title screen. Three different palettes can be selected: MSX2 enhanced palette, MSX2 default palette and MSX1 palette.

If your MSX computer is equipped with a V9958 VDP you'll be able to enjoy the game with smooth scroll.


*** SHIHAKATAS LAIR ***

Shihakata is a sorcerer who lives in a hidden cave. He invoked the old spirits which told him what happened to Takahashi. During your adventure he will provide you with weapons and items, so don't hesitate visiting his lair to get some helpful stuff.


WEAPON LIST

-Knife: Pirate knife found in a shipwreck. Use it to defeat creatures approaching you.
-Stone Axe: Handmade axe. Perfect to kill distant ground creatures.
-Boomerang: Wooden aborigine weapon. It's ideal to beat flying creatures.
-Fireball: Burning weapon. It bounces all over the ground killing all creatures along the way.


ITEM LIST

-Boots: You can jump higher.
-Skates: You can move faster, but you can't stop unless you stumble.
-Wings: You can jump once in the air.
-Salt: Helpful in icy surfaces.
-Milk: Refills your vitality when you are starving.
-Heart: Extra life.
-Piggybank: Doubles the value of the coins you get.
-Fish Cap: You can swim faster.


*** SCORING ***

Points are earned by:

-Killing creatures (100 points).
-Eating fruit (200 points).
-Defeating evil spirits (5.000 points).
-Remaining vitality at the end of an area (100 points per unit).

Extra lives can be obtained:

-At Shihakata's lair.
-Each 20.000 points earned.

Continue playing:

-If you lose one life, you will restart the current area after losing all your extra items.
-If you lose all of your lives, you will be asked to continue playing. By choosing [YES] you will restart the current area with no extra weapons, items or coins.
-When you defeat an evil spirit, you will be rewarded with a password. It can be typed at title screen by choosing the [CONTINUE] option. You will continue from that point, with no extra weapons, items or coins.


*** REQUIREMENTS ***

MSX1 or higher with a minimum of 16Kb RAM.
