FAT WORM BLOWS A SPARKY (Durell Software, 1985) [Inlay, Side 1 / Rear of Box} FULL INSTRUCTIONS MAYBE FOUND ON THE REVERSE SIDE OF THIS SHEET. Now for something completely different. You are an insidious little WORMIE being chased through a micro-electronic labyrinth (you guessed it a Sinclair Spectrum) by CREEPERS in SPUTNIKS and CRAWLERS on foot (feets?). Defend yourself by shooting BURPER SPARKIES at the CRAWLERS, and BLASTER SPARKIES to take-out the SPUTNIKS. You'll see the computer board in a smooth-scrolling 3D viewed from above (yawn, yawn, just another bit of mega-programming), as you crawl around in search of a DISK DRIVE on which to CLONE yourself. First you'll need to find fifty SPINDLES to eat, which will replenish your supply of SPARKIES to shoot at the BUGS. How long can you crawl down a DATA BUS? Find out how refreshing a DE-BUGGER feels when you're stuck in a Spectrum and covered in CRAWLIES. This game is like WELL CRUCIAL MAN. [Inlay, Side 2] FAT WORM BLOWS A SPARKY by Julian Todd Compatible with Kempston, Protek, Interface 2, and many other joystick interfaces. However we recommend you use the keyboard. We recommend you use the REDEFINE KEYS option to set up the keyboard to your favourite positions. LOADING Place cassette in recorder and rewind to start. Check that the recorder is attached to the Spectrum (EAR to EAR), and that the recorder is set to maximum treble, and half volume. Type LOAD "" on the Spectrum, and press ENTER. STANDARD CONTROLS Q Joystick UP FASTER A Joystick DOWN SLOWER O Joystick RIGHT ROTATE LEFT P Joystick LEFT ROTATE RIGHT 1 FIRE burper sparky (mine type) SPACE Joystick FIRE FIRE blaster sparky (bullet type) H HALT PLAY (activates "BOUNCING BALL ROUTINE") G GAME OVER QUICK START INSTRUCTIONS The aim of the game is to find and eat 50 of the rotating triangular shapes called "SPINDLES", then find and climb onto the disk (which has the word "DURELL" written on it) where you must "clone" the worm to complete the game. You must kill or avoid the bugs. If four bugs get onto your worm it will suffer a fatal error (death). GENERAL PLAYING TIPS Use the map at the bottom left of the screen to locate spindles, which will appear as small white dots. If you get "bugged" find a black & white striped block and crawl under it - this is the "de-bugger" (and will remove all your bugs). Eat as many spindles as you can, as they replenish your supply of sparkies, and you must eat 50 before you can clone yourself. Also try to pick up as many extra sparkies as you can find (usually running down the data buses). To get onto the data buses you must find a ramp. There are crawler bugs which you can shoot with blaster sparkies straight from your nose, and there are creeper bugs that fly around in sputniks which you can shoot down by laying burper sparkies. These will wait until a sputnik is overhead, then rise up to get it. However if the sputnik is very high, it will probably pass above the burper sparky without being hit. CHANGING CONTROL KEYS &JOYSTICKS If you have a Kempston joystick, select this option from the opening menu. If you have a "cursor" type joystick (eg: Protek and Interface 2), or if you wish to redefine your keyboard (highly recommended), then select the "REDEFINE KEYS" option from the opening menu, and then just press the keys of your choice or move the joystick in response to the prompts. Select the "EXIT" prompt and press ENTER to end your redefinition. SCORE You score points for killing bugs and for collecting spindles. Watch the bottom right of your screen to check your supply of sparkies (ammunition), and how many spindles you have still to collect before "cloning".
