The arcade adventure L'Abbaye des Morts is now free for the Commodore 64.

The arcade L'Abbaye des Morts about the adventures of the hapless monk Jean Raymond in the bowels of an old church (almost like Diablo, yeah) has managed to visit different platforms in its long ten years of existence. In early 2019, the C64 version went on sale, available both digitally and by ordering a physical copy from Double Sided Games. For those who are not mentally ready to part with their blood money so easily, and join the new classics passionately hunting, there was good news: the game can be completely free and, importantly, absolutely legally downloadable.

If anyone suddenly does not remember what all the fuss is about, here's the plot twist. In the 13th century, the Cathar priests, who preached the poverty of Christ and were supporters of a life without material aspirations, were called heretics by the Catholic Church and banished from the French region of Languedoc. One of the Cathars named Jean Raymond, in an attempt to hide from the Crusaders, finds an old church, unaware that an ancient evil is buried beneath its ruins.
