A new colorful platformer has been released for Atari 8-bit Albert that squeezes all the juice out of the iron. The developer Janusz "Kski" Karmanski took his first steps in programming on Atari devices, and has a soft spot for them all his life. Having stumbled onto a community of retro-game fans via the Internet, Janusz decided to dabble in the old days and write a new game based on his experience.
Thus Albert was born. Over the course of 30 levels, the main character must collect gems, avoiding contact with huge insects. Platformer boasts a palette of 50 colors, high-resolution sprites and direct dependence of the jump distance on the running speed (which is also gained smoothly). Author managed to achieve this result by using MadPascal language instead of assembler: according to Janusz he wanted to know if Atari games could be more beautiful than usual. The answer is more than positive.
In addition to Karmanski himself, animators Jarek "Odyn1ec" Wyszynski and Triplex and artist Krzysztof "Kaz" Zembik worked on Albert. The creators do not deny the possibility of a boxed release by Retronics, but the question is still being decided. Also in development is Albert II, a direct sequel on a different engine "with more features and fewer restrictions." Which means games for Atari could be even cooler.
You can download Albert from release news page or directly from "Perfect Pixel". But be warned: you'll need a computer with 128 KB RAM to run it fully. The game will run with 64KB, but the first three levels will not be all graphics.
