Since the premiere of the first movie in the Tron universe, which featured lightcycle racing, quite a few games with similar gameplay have been released on multiple platforms. One of them was Raster Runner, which, among other things, featured nice graphics.
By controlling a futuristic motorcycle, you must force your opponent to crash into an energy plume that is created behind each player. Your opponent tries to do the same to you. To avoid an emergency situation, three times per round you can activate a force field that allows you to cross such a plume and get out into the free space. The game is over when one of the players loses all of his lightships (initially there are 10 of them).
You can play alone against a computer opponent, or in pairs at the same computer - a useful feature, given the not-so-large selection of games with multiplayer. The choice of game mode is not very intuitive - in order to choose a computer opponent, you must go to the control settings menu of the second player and select the difficulty level of the opponent.
In 1989 Raster Runner was released on ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC computers, and 32 years later it was ported to Enterprise by the notorious enthusiast Geco - in honor of a local club meeting that took place in Hungary after a long break due to quarantine restrictions.
The game will run on both standard Enterprise computer models (64K and 128K), and you can download it from our website.
