Team Megastyle entered the 2020 Reset64 4KB Craptastic Game Competition with their infinite runner Rainbow Edge Run. Due to very strong competition and a sea of good (ironically!) games, the guys took only 11th place. But the completion of the contest untied their hands, because there were no more memory constraints. The result of taking full advantage of the C64's capabilities was a deluxe version of the game.
In Rainbow Edge Run DX, players have to control a boy running through an LGBT rainbow (it's funny that the title is colored in the colors of an ordinary rainbow) and collecting gold coins. Along the way he encounters rocks, one touch of which breaks the endless run and leads to losing. The Deluxe Edition, along with graphical enhancements, better sound and additional music, also includes so-called "mystery boxes". There are four types in total: Flight High lets you fly a balloon, Scull Crusher makes you smash skulls with a baseball bat, Mine Jammer crushes rocks ahead with ultrasound, and Golden Path turns the road ahead into a safe path of coins for a while.
Rainbow Edge Run DX is available as a free download on the official page or straight from "Perfect Pixel". In addition, Phoenix Ware publishers will release the game on physical media in the near future.
Oh, yes, the developers are also so generous as to separately release a tune from the game and even a whole poster:
No place without a trailer, either, of course:
